Hiatuses and Hermits...

thorpe inspired hat

Hello my friends, I know I've been gone for a wee bit longer than I said I was going to be, so I figured it was about time that I come out of my hermit hole and let everyone know what has been going on. Before I do that, let me first thank all of you that emailed or left comments of concern! I'm sorry that I didn't write back, but I did read all of them. As a matter of fact I haven't been doing a whole lot of anything until recently. I've been hiding out like a true hermit! But I am starting to feel better.

A little bit of a back story about me. I have something called a Chiari Malformation. (if you want to learn more about this condition here are some links www.asap.org and www.ninds.nih.gov ) I've had the surgery and for the most part I can get along with day to day activities without too many problem but about once a year I do something stupid and injure myself and irritate the condition. This time it was doing an exercise program that involved too much jumping right before Thanksgiving. Once this happens, I end up with horrible head pain, neck pain, and headaches 24/7. Then the fun starts with trying to adjust my medication with my neurologist so we can find a happy medium were I'm not in too much pain but not overly medicated. On a good note I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Ok so not a good thing normally, but he was able to put me on a new medication that has helped me with a lot of other problems I've been having!!

So this is where things stand at the moment with me. I have been baking again and I hope to start blogging about that, but the Tuesday toppers are still on hold until I can get back into the groove of things, which I hope is soon, but I'm not giving any guarantees ;D.

Julie :D

I know all about your condition. I work in high risk obstetrics and my sister in law has chiari malformation as well. She too had surgery to make things easier and less pain about 7 years ago. Rest up feel better and I know we all can't wait for you to come back and see what you have been up to!

I am glad to see that you are doing better. My mom also has Arnold Chiari Malformation and does the cake thing. I find it encouraging that other people are dealing with the same things in life and are making the best of a somewhat bad situation.

  47. Julie,
How crazy. I was just watching something about that on TV last night. Its also very similiar to POTS (postural orthostatic tachacardia syndrome) in which I have. So I know how frustrating it is to feel like crap all the time. Please email me I would love to talk with you about things that help you feel better. twinoaks427@yahoo.com. Thanks!

  48. I sympathize with you. I'm a cake decorator in addition to a M-F job and I have Fibro too. It sucks, but as you said it's nice to know why all the other stuff was wrong and be able to give it a name.
    Best wishes to you!
