-Take the black edible pen and make a two lines that cross in the center, then a half circles on each side.

Meg's Birthday Cake

megs cake

I thought I'd share with you the cake I made for my sister for her birthday this past weekend. I love how the green turned out and I think I got pretty close to her favorite color. I will have to say though, I definitely need to invest in a extruder gun if I'm going to be doing anything like this again! The flowers seemed to take forever hand rolling the fondant ropes. I think it was worth it in the end though.

On a side note, I just wanted to let you know that I just worded yesterdays post wrong. I'm not quitting the Tuesday Toppers, it was just the final topper in my series of cupcake, cake slice, and cake cupcake toppers. Around Christmas I am going to take a short break though, mainly because it's so hectic around here during that time. But I'm not leaving you!

See you next week :D

Tuesday Toppers: Cake Cupcake

Tuesday Toppers: Cake Cupcake

I had such a great time this past weekend. We have an annual Johnny Appleseed festival near us that we go to every year and I was lucky enough to get to go both days! On top of that it was my sisters birthday weekend so I made her a cake (I hope to post it soon) and we went out for dinner to celebrate. Unfortunately I'm going to have to workout for the next two days straight to make up for all of the yummy food I ate over the weekend, lol. Now on to this weeks topper. I'm finishing up my series of cake cupcake toppers and showing you how to make the cake topper. Here's what you will need to make one.

caketopper11

- Fondant smoother
-Knife
-Paint brush and water
-White, light and dark pink, and red fondant.

caketopper10

-Take the white fondant and flatten just slightly.

caketopper9

-Pinch the top and bottom edges all the way around.

caketopper8

-Then take the fondant smoother and smooth it into a cake shape.

caketopper7

-Take both of the pinks and roll into thin ropes. ( I think I'm going to have to invest in a fondant extruder!)

caketopper6

-Take the light pink and zig zag it back and forth bunching it as you go, making it about 3/8" wide.

caketopper5

-Cut in half.

caketopper4

-Take the paintbrush and water and lightly go around the bottom of the cake. Next take on of the halves of pink and go around the base (it may not come up in once piece, and if it doesn't just piece together going around).

caketopper3

-Take the paintbrush and water and do the same around the top. Then take the darker pink fondant and make a scallop.

caketopper2

caketopper1

-For the cherries on top make 5-7 small balls of red and evenly place them on top of the cake with a little water.

Tuesday Toppers: Football Cupcake

Well it's football season again and depending on how you look at it, this could be a good thing or a bad thing.:D Fortunately I've grown fond of football, or at least I can tolerate it now, lol. And of course with football season comes football parties and tailgating, both great excuses to make cupcakes! So this week I'm going to show you how to make the football cupcakes that will make you the MVP of the party. Here's what you will need to make one:

footbal9

-Fondant smoother
-Knife
-Paint brush and water
-Redish-brown and white fondant

footbal8

-take a 1" ball of the brown fondant and flatten slightly with the fondant smoother.

footbal7

-Pinch both sides to form almost a diamond.

footbal6

-Round off the top and bottom edges with the fondant smoother and pinch ends to define them more.

footbal5

footbal4

-Take the white fondant and form it into a thin rope (if I were going to make a lot of these, I would probably either use royal icing for the stitching or make sure i had a extruder gun!)

footbal3

-Cut a 1" piece and 8-1/4" pieces.

footbal2

-Attach the long piece first with a little water.

football1

-Then evenly divide the short pieces along the longer piece attaching them with a small amount of water. (ok so i only used 7 of them because they would have been too crowded, but if you want to be completely accurate you need to use all eight of them :)

Your now ready for kickoff!
